«HUTIR YAGODYN».

/ETHNICAL CULTURAL CENTRE OF VOLYN POLISSYA (WOODLANDS) IN THE ХIХ–TH CENTURY/

Building of a roadside complex for servicing auto tourists from Europe has begun 7 kilometres from the Ukrainian–polish border near automobile road М-07 Kyiv–Kovel–Yagodyn. The name was chosen not accidentally. I have set the following task: to show, how our grandparents and great grand parents lived in the ХIХ–th century, to reflect that time, when there were no these wild, devastating wars of the XX–th century yet, what Volyn people were like some time ago.

Volyn polissya is located in marshy–sandy lowland, covered with forests, which has allowed to preserve its culture from destruction as a result of many inroads of different invaders. Therefore a need of building a hutir (a farm–stead) just on the entrance to Ukraine with reconstruction of the customs and traditions, which existed in Volyn polissya, has arisen. For the goal of showing, how our ancestors lived in a hutir with complete self–reliance. In order to popularize Slavic culture and pravoslavni (Greek orthodox) family customs and traditions.

The area of the land plot 1,5 ha., on which according to the project are located:

A parking lot for 50 car places, multi–ton lorries.

A shop for selling goods necessary on the road, with a souvenir department for selling products of folk industries (embroidery, weaving and so on).

A café for 100 places, a single–storey building. One can observe from a big hall through a window bread being baked, sausages, ham and other food being cooked. An exposition of objects of everyday life of hutir inhabitants, beginning with their birthday, will be behind a stained–glass window. Portraits of T. G. Shevchenko and Lesya Ukrainka will be on the wall near the stage, an embroidered anthem of Ukraine and an icon of Nicolay the Wonderworker — protector of travellers — between them. An orchestra will play Ukrainian folk songs on an accordion, a clarinet, a violin and a drum. Meat dishes will be cooked of pork, rabbits, goats, geese and chicken meat — of all those animals and poultry, which were bred at hutirs. The menu will consist of Ukrainian national dishes with consideration of the holidays of the pravoslavny christian calendar and the ordinary calendar. People will have possibilities to sit in shady summer cafes, intended for 6-8 people. It will be possible to roast shashlyk or fish, to boil a fish–soup on a brazier nearby.

Two 4-place hotels, which are ordinary detached single–storey village houses with all conveniences, intended for living of 4 persons. The design of the interior will be like of a country hut — mattresses, stuffed with hay, covered with home–woven bed–spreads of flax. And the bed–clothes will be of home–woven linen, made of flax, too. There will be a children’s playground between these hotels.

Bath–houses will be two metres from a 30х15 m pond. The furnaces in the bath–houses will be electrical, with consideration of ecologic reasons, in order not to pollute air. People will be able to jump from a sweating room straight into the pond, and then fish. And fish can also be caught at the lake 600 metres from the hutir behind railroad station «Yagodyn». That lake is connected with Western Bug river, from which various fish swim for spawning.

Household buildings will be on the territory of the hutir too, in which hens, rabbits, geese and several pigs will live. Products, received from those domestic animals, after inspection by a sanitary and epidemiological station, will be on the tables of guests in the cafe. Vegetables, fresh and canned fruits, home wines, made according to old recipes, will be stored in the cellar. People will be able to climb onto a hayloft and lie on freshly mown hay.

An exhibition of the agricultural implements, which were used at the hutir, will be located at the entrance to the leisure area from the parking lot.

I address my compatriots, who by different reasons live outside Ukraine, with a call to perform their duty to our historical motherland — Ukraine. I appeal to them to provide sponsorship help to building of Ethnographic cultural centre «Hutir Yagodyn». But this help will not be gratuitous, you will receive certificates for the right of free living and service at «Hutir Yagodyn». Since the year 2006 i have been busy with drawing documents for the land and preparation of project documents. After i received all the permissions, i could begin building only in July of the year 2009. But because of the economic crisis building will take much more time, than drawing of documents. it would be good to manage to finish building by the Euro 2012 football championship. And the object must be run in, personnel must be trained during one year. A cultural program must be prepared for a whole year on calendar days (observation of ritual days). Clothes must be sewn for the personnel (ready–made clothes cannot be bought!). It differed from the clothes, which were worn in lviv or the central regions of Ukraine in the ХIХ–th century.

There are many organization–technical problems there, and there are few time and money. Are we, Ukrainians of the ХХI–st century, less organized, than our ancestors or other folks, and don’t we love our motherland — Ukraine? It has given us life, education, it has raised us, and, finally, our ancestors lie there. And i want, that we should have no shame before our descendants. That we could bring our children and grandchildren to the hutir to show them and let feel the life of their ancestors in Ukraine. In order, that they would know, what kin, tribe they are from, what ancient roots they have. I want to bring up in them a feeling of pride for Ukrainian people, representatives of which they are.

Peter Alexandrovich Obyedkov. I was born in the year 1955, in Kovel, Volynska oblast (region). In the year 1972 i finished studies at Kovel secondary school №1, in the year 1976 graduated from Cherkasy fire–fighting technical school of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR i was sent to serve military duty in Moscow. The first position was of the commander of a platoon of the 39–th fire department on protection of Tushynskiy rayon (district) of Moscow. In the year 1988 i graduated from the Soviet union correspondence juridical institute by specialty jurist–legal scholar. From the year 1991 till retirement in the year 1999 i worked as the head of the fire–fighting service of VMO (the All–Russia museum union) State Tretyakov gallery. I have not been a member of political parties, i am a pravoslavny christian. After retirement i continue working on the position of the General director of the limited liability company «Fire–fighting equipment and training centre «Zashchita». My constant place of residence is Moscow. I have adult son and daughter. I consider, that i have performed my duty to Russia as officer, but not to Ukraine due to the situation, which has arisen in the country in the year 1991. I try to correct this paradox.
